Diabetic Autonomic Neuropathy

چکیده
Diabetes is probably the commonest cause of autonomic neuropathy, and causes functional changes in many systems including the cardiovascular, urogenital and gastrointestinal systems. Fainting, postural hypotension, gastroparesis, atonic bladder, and erectile dysfunction may all be associated with autonomic dysfunction in diabetes, and there may also be defective sweating and pupillary reflexes. All of these may depend on damage to the small fibres in peripheral autonomic nerves, but it is increasingly clear that there are many disturbances in synaptic transmission and end-organ responses as well. Indeed many of the studies of ‘autonomic neuropathy’ depend on the measurements made of the function of effector organs rather than of the autonomic nerves themselves. Provocation tests which investigate endorgan activity during reflex manoeuvres, such as the Valsalva manoeuvre, postural tilting or cystometry, may allow the investigator to observe changes in reflex functions that are generally interpreted as being due to a disorder of the nerves themselves. Similarly changes in gastrointestinal transit times and tests of _______________________________

A late finding in type 1 diabetes, diabetic neuropathy can be an early finding in non insulin-dependent diabetes. Diabetic neuropathies are divided primarily into two groups, sensorimotor and autonomic. Patients may acquire only one type of diabetic neuropathy or may present w...

Autonomic nervous system dysfunction in diabetics can occur apart from peripheral sensorimotor polyneuropathy and sometimes leads to complaints which may be diagnosed by electrodiagnostic methods. Moreover glycemic control of these patients may prevent such a complications.Materials and Methods: 30 diabetic patients were compared to the same number of age and sex-matched controls regarding to e...

OBJECTIVE The diabetic autonomic neuropathy is a poorly studied subject in our medical literature. This study is aimed at investigating the presence of diabetic autonomic neuropathy in a group of Sudanese diabetic patients and its relationship to factors like glycemic control, duration of diabetes and presence of peripheral neuropathy. METHODS During one year we examined 120 diabetic patients...

متن کاملClinical Significance of the Presence of Autonomic and Vestibular Dysfunction in Diabetic Patients with Peripheral Neuropathy
BACKGROUND We investigated the prevalence of diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN) and vestibular dysfunction (VD) in diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy. METHODS Thirty-five diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy were enrolled from August 2008 to July 2009. All subjects underwent autonomic function tests. Nineteen of the patients (54.3%) underwent videonystagmography. RESULTS ...
